recaps of concert week so far........

wow, I can't believe I go see the CAB tomorrow! It's going to be me, Megan, and possibly Joe from work. /o\? \o/? I dunno. He's a nice kid, but Megan has a crush. If nothing else, even though he's only 19, he's well-versed in 80's movies and classic sci-fi! I don't even know if he likes this kind of music!

well, by now you've already seen my post about Bidwell, I hope. Turns out Megan *was* talking to the lead singer, lol; he looks quite a bit differant up close, I guess? We might go see them in Lodi when they play there, lol; they were good enough to warrant the drive!
Red Jumpsuit Apparatus played second, and put on a good show; not great, but good. For some unknown reason, they actually packed up their merch booth before they played, so I got nothing from them. :( I'd wanted a t-shirt, at least! Megan scored a setlist, which she got signed by the lead singer, so that was the only RJA thing we brought home; she collects setlists, but only autographed ones go on her wall.
Pepper was last, and I guess they are pretty well known? I dunno; I hadn't heard of them, but then, I get all my music from here, and I don't listen to the radio at all. They played last, and if nothing else, they got the crowd pumped up! Definitely some 'herb usage' going on during their set; they joked about it smelling like the 60's, and talked about how much RJA lights up, lol. A little bit of stage gay, a LOT of references to wanting us all to meet them in the showers for an orgy after the show...yeah, lol. One of their songs was titled 'Pussy-licking'; another was 'Musical 69'. My favorite one by them, though, was 'BLACK OUT'; mostly just the crowd shouting it at them every time the line came up, which was, like every 10 seconds, lol.

Sunday I worked, so nothing much interesting happened then, lol, other than me having to get up way too early(5 am!) and people at work laughing at how tired I was. Oh! And the note! ok, backtrack for a sec., on the way home Saturday night, we noticed a little piece of paper stuck under the windshield wiper. We figured it was probably a flyer or something, we'd look at it the next day. It turned out to be a very random note, "My Volvo likes your Volvo!" That's all it said, lol; no name, no phone number, nothing. One of the most random things I've ever heard of, lol! Believe me, though, I can't think of any reason anyone would like Megan's car! The thing is impossible to find parts for, because it happens to be one of the 300 or so that were built in Italy that year. Seriously, it just cost Megan $300.00 for a new tail light cover, which, for my car is like $20.00! And that was with ordering it from Canada; if she'd gone through the dealer it was gonna be $800.00....

Got up around 7 am, we left here at 8 or so, then stopped by Megan's parents house, where we picked up her sister. By 11, we were finally actually on our way to L.A., lol. The drive was pretty uneventful, we got into L.A. around 4:30 or so, because we stopped at a TA for a late lunch once we got over the grapevine.

Art(bass) and Chris(drummer) let us in, and told us Megan(gonna call her Megs, to keep the 2 Megans straight, lol; guitarist and singer) would be there around 5:30, Chelsey(the other singer and 12-string) was going to be meeting us at the venue, because she didn't get off work until 6 pm, and the show was supposed to start at 7. They set us up with the Wii, then they both went to take showers, lol. The 4 of them share a 2 bedroom apartment, it has a big living room, which was where me, Becca, and Megan would be sleeping. The living room had 2 couches and a futon in it, to give you an idea of it's size.

We hitched a ride with Megs to Ghengis Cohen; she was thrilled to see Megan and Becca. Once there, we waited around for the other bands to get there, cause it turned out the show wasn't supposed to be starting until 7:30, lol; Unison Music had put 7 on the flyers so people would get there a little early, but evidently they forgot to tell Peech! the next one to show up was Marianne Keith, who was thrilled with the fact that we'd driven down for the show! One thing I thought was hilarious is they all really DO call Megan and Becca 'The Superfans'! Megan had mentioned it a few times, lol, but I thought it was more an inside joke kind of thing, not a title, but when Marianne saw her and Becca, she squeeled 'The Superfans are here?' before running over and giving them hugs. The only band that knew we were coming down was Peech, because we'd asked them if we could crash at their place that night, lol, instead of driving back after the show.

Noah Sugerman arrived next, while Becca was outside. He saw Megan, and asked if Becca was there, too, so he went back outside to find her. Megan made sure to introduce me to everyone, but, well, I felt kind of out of place because she and Becca knew all these people, and well, I didn't. And while I'll listen to their stuff on occasion, it's not really something I'll go out of my way to hear; which, wow, I mean, I guess I did go out of my way to hear it, lol, but why would I turn down a free trip to L.A.? Each band did 4 songs, and each one of them asked Megan and Becca to pick one of their songs for them to play. :) After the show, everyone just kind of milled around outside, goofing around, talking, smoking cigarettes, and so on.

Noah actually borrowed my phone so he could call Megan and Becca's mom to thank her for letting them drive down for the show, it was cute! He treats them like they are his younger cousins or something, lol. Actually, all of the Unison people did, i think to them, Megan and Becca are like those sweet younger cousins who think everything you do is great, and want to be just like you, without you seeing them so often that it gets annoying. After all, other than Peech, it'd been almost a year since they'd seen each other.

Marianne invited us to come sit in when she was at the recording studio the next day, and Noah was being a big goof. He had this idea, to take a couple of chairs, and 'put them where chairs don't belong' to take pictures in them. So they took a couple of chairs, stuck them in an empty parking spot alongside Fairfax ave., with their backs to the road, and took a bunch of pics in them, lol.

After a while, it was time to leave. On the way back, we rode with Chelsey; we were stopping at a store for some Disaronno and Jack Daniels, lol. When we got back, I sat there and watched them all get drunk and high, while singing, playing guitars, bass, and playing on a hand drum; either it was very entertaining or I got a contact high, lol, I'm not sure which, maybe both? Megan got extremely mellowed out, she just sort of sank into herself and sat there smiling at everything. :) Becca(her mom had given her permission, whether I liked it or not.) becomes slightly OCD when high, she was straitening things, lining lighters up by color, putting everyone's belongings into their purses, and so on. Even after everyone was heading to bed, she was still puttering around, picking up the glasses, putting things away, and so on.

They got to laugh at me the next morning; in my sleep I was responding to the cat, when it meowed, I'd mutter at it, telling it things like settle down and go to sleep, I wasn't gonna get up yet. Asking it what was wrong, and so on. :) lol, it's not like I hadn't been laughing at them all last night!

Around 10 or so, we finally got up, and then we headed over to the studio around 11 or so. We hung out there until 2 or so, then we wandered around the corner to eat at the little sushi place. Well, Megan and Becca had sushi, I had a teriyaki chicken lunch box that had the chicken, 2 rice balls, some veggies, 2 california rolls, and some battered, fried things. not too sure what all they were, I only recognized the slice of pineapple and the prawn.

After we ate, Becca and I walked down the street the block or so to where the FOB delivery was gonna be, just so we could say we'd been there, lol! We went back to the studio, said goodbye, then headed back this way. The ride was pretty uneventful, we did hit some stop and go traffic before we got out of L.A.; the 101/170 interchange, I think it was? Got home about 9 or so, dropped Becca off, then crashed, since I had to be at work at 5:30 am on Wednesday, and it's not like I'd gotten much sleep the night before!

Anyway, flist, are any of you going tonight to the show?

yes, it was a blast! Also, forgot to say I had on one of my new t's from Bidwell Moday, and Chelsea(I keep spelling it wrong) asked about it.
Turns out they and Peech are trying to set up a tour together; which would be awesome!

CAB! \O/ HAVE A GOOD TIME!

[identity profile] lunar-scythe.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
THE CABBABIES DID AN ACOUSTIC SET!!! the bad part of this: only Ian and Singer were on stage performing. The others were hanging out behind the crowd watching, lol! I'm typing this on my phone, which did not like the CAB; it refused to take any pictures of them AT ALL:( I will post a recap later.

[identity profile] firedragon9.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
\O/ Why didn't they all play?

[identity profile] lunar-scythe.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
*shrugs* I dunno, I guess they hadn't gotten a replacement snare or something? I know before the show, they left the trailer in the parking lot with someone guarding it while they all left to look for *something*, anyway.

I just dunno why the couldn't have borrowed one from one of the other bands? It's not like they don't know each other, lol; they're all decayDance, and you can't really *find* a closer-knit label, you know?

[identity profile] firedragon9.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
JOHNSON BROKE HIS SNARE AT MY SHOW! :D

SORRY ABOUT THAT. XD

[identity profile] lunar-scythe.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
lol, if the snare haden't gotten broken, we probably wouldn't have gotten the BONUS Charlotte Sometimes, so, it's all good! Plus, how often do you get to see acoustic sets, even if it's only half the band!?

[identity profile] firedragon9.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
true, true. you got a special~ show!

[identity profile] lunar-scythe.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
plus, an even better bonus, I'm close to talking my roommate into us going to rockband live in San Jose! She wants to see the full show, lol, cause now, even though she doesn't like PatD, she want's to see 3 of the bands playing. :)

Of course, my bank account does not really approve of another concert so soon, lol, but we will see, it gets 'fed' on Tuesday. :)
